Bundle S-T-R-E-T-C-H !!

I occasionally receive emails and pictures from quilters that have made things with our fabrics. I love getting them and I’m always amazed at what you all come up with.
Sometimes I get something extra special.

Meet Nancy, the “Stretch Your Fat 8th Bundle To The Max Quilter!

Nancy gave herself a challenge to create as many things that she could using one of our fat eighth bundles.

I think you’ll agree the results are awesome!!

For quilt #1 she used the “Rainbow Rail Fence” pattern by That Patchwork Place.

She used Minky on the back and she had never used it before but she liked the result.
She cut 3, 2 x 22 inch strips from the fat eighths and added one orange from her stash.

For quilt #2 she had a 3 inch strip left so she made a jelly roll race quilt.

She cut the 2.5 inch strip in half and added applique. So cute!!

For quilt #3 she used remainders of the fat eighth scraps.

And resized the Turning Twenty block .

She STILL had a few remaining strips! So she made quilt #4 with 2 inch pieces!

Now on to quilt 5!

Left over pieces including left over backing and binding contributed to this 22.5 inch Trip around the World.

She will donate this quilt to the Boise Basin Quilters Guild for their Baby Quilt Project.

Unbelievable and well done Nancy! You’re so creative and managed to do more from that small bundle than I could have ever imagined.

Thank you for being so creative, I’m truly in awe of your talents!!

I’ve been away from the office too much lately, and I’m finally digging into my newest Sew Sampler Box!

It’s such a treat to see this little blue box filled with fun stuff every month.

Happy Fabric Cutting Day!

Mary and I will be teaching in Hamilton, Missouri at the Missouri Star Quilt Company!

The retreat starts on Wednesday February 15th at 10am and runs through Saturday February 18th at 11am.

We had a full house, but recently a few more beds opened up!

That means more quilters can come … Go here to sign up and for more details.

Thursday night we have a surprise charity event planned that involves Teddy Bears. There will be some team sewing and a grand prize … that’s all I’m saying!!

We have a fun filled “sew in your pajamas day” planned on Friday. Hair fixes optional.

We’ll also have lots of prizes, gifts and even a few bonus projects.

So bring your friends and wear your most comfortable pajamas … See you soon in Hamilton!!

Happy Quilting!

Boxy Rectangle Dresden!

When Mary first showed me the sketches for this quilt, I didn’t know what to think.

I’d never seen anything like it!

I’ll bet you haven’t either!

Making the 3 different sizes of Dresden wedges you’ll need for these blocks is so easy using the ruler.

To help here is another video tutorial we filmed at the Fat Quarter Shop

It’s always nice to have a little video for support!

To make a great quilt you need the right tools.
Our pattern will give you the measurements to use on the ruler and tips for joining the different size wedges.

All the fabrics used in this quilt were done with Me and My Sister fabrics. It includes fabric from over 40 of our past collections.

Mary gets to keep the sample as a keepsake.

Our rule has always been … whomever makes the sample quilt, gets to keep the quilt someday. I’ve talked her out of a few over the years and I’m hoping I can talk her out of this one someday but I’m not holding my breath.

AssortedCollection Fanned Covers_4000x3000-loresMary and I would both like to send a special thanks to Kimberly, all the ladies and the gentleman who made these video tutorials possible.

It was so much fun filming them for all of you and I hope you’ve enjoyed watching them during this week long event!

Hooray for Double Wide Dresdens!!

And that’s a wrap!!

Dragonfly Dresden!

Today brings another fresh and unique design …

And we’re making Dragonflies!

We recently traveled to the Fat Quarter Shop to film some tutorials using the new ruler and we have another one for you today …

Some simple piecing makes the dragonfly bodies and provides the basic block foundation.

The Dresden wedges are simply sewn together to form wings that are then sewn onto the base blocks!

How simple is that! The camera man actually gave us a thumbs up!

There are 4 different sizes of Dragonflies and you’ll get instructions for making all the different sizes in the pattern.

Our quilter, Sharon Elsberry quilted a different simple pattern in each colored section.

I love the color block settingĀ  … it goes from orange to purple in color bands.

This quilt certainly doesn’t look like an old fashioned Dresden!

I hope you’re enjoying all the tutorials. We certainly had fun filming them.

Happy Quilting!

Beach Ball Dresden!

love, Love LOVE this quilt!

I think it might be because it uses a jelly roll …

One of my favorite precuts.

Here’s today’s Fat Quarter Shop video tutorial for making this quilt even easier …

You’ll be making strips sets to get these “two color” wedges and the pattern will walk you through it step by step.

All you need now is a ruler of your very own!

Mary certainly is a serious while she’s filming!

That probably why she’s doing it and not me.

Original Double Wide Dresden!

This is the quilt that planted the seed and started it all!

I never thought that I would make a Dresden quilt.
I’ve always loved them but I don’t applique (in fact I’ve been kicked out of two classes)! I’ve actually been waiting for someone (like my sister) to make me a quilt for years … and yes, I’m still waiting.

Now I can make my own and it’s so easy.
We filmed this short video recently at the Fat Quarter Shop

See how easy this is!!

Today’s behind the scenes photo from our filming at the Fat Quarter Shop

Love these girls and you’re gonna love this ruler

And all the possibilities that await!

Double Wide Dresden Ruler!

We have a new ruler!

We introduced it at this past Quilt Market in Houston and it’s been doing very well!

It puts a new twist on the traditional Dresden block and makes it fast, fun and easy!!
Our Dresden plates are twice as wide as the traditional version and have a secondary star pattern in the center. This means no raw edges, half the work and no hand applique!

Learn to manipulate the sizes of your Dresden plate and the center star pattern by simply using your ruler.

Arrange different size wedges to create unique blocks!!

Your going to love making our updated Dresden.

We recently visited the Fat Quarter Shop and filmed some tutorials that will make using our ruler even simpler.

Here’s a peek of the behind the scenes goings on …

Both Mary and Kimberly are so professional prepping for the next step.

Fat Quarter Shop will feature a new tutorial every day this week to help you through all 4 of our new projects. I’ll be showing a different behind the scenes photo everyday too.

There are easy to follow instructions on the inside wrapper of the ruler but the patterns will make things even easier with all the tips and tricks.

The original Double Wide Dresden pattern started it all …

Pin Curl-Cover-ForPrint

And these 3 projects followed shortly after …

I can’t wait to show you all the new stuff we’re working on! Look for even MORE unique patterns coming soon.

Our new ruler cuts the work in half, there are no raw edges and you get a secondary star pattern in the center … Not your mothers Dresden!

Rainy Day Ships!

They’re Here!

Our newest “Rainy Day” fabrics have shipped to a Quilt Store near you!

This past Summer we were able to visit Moda and got some behind the scenes photos of the warehouse process. I thought this might be a nice change from all the standard photos of fabric bundles …

But we have to have at least one of those!!

When the fabric arrives in the warehouse, it’s on giant rolls …

Rainy day 2

That have to be folded, measured …

And rolled onto the cardboard bolts …

It’s a fascinating process to watch!

A specified amount of yardage is saved for the designers to their make sample quilts …

And for the salespersons to show their customers …

The precuts are an entirely different story that we won’t get into today!

Ever hear of that old saying “It takes a village”? Well that truly describes the process of getting fabrics out the door and to your local Quilt Shop.

Our visit wasn’t all work! We happened to be at the warehouse during an open house for the shop owners and got to participate in some of the fun. There was a caricature artist and I couldn’t resist having my portrait done.

The hardest part for me was sitting still and I had to make sure the artist included a picture of my dog from my phone.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a different perspective and just a small at part of the process getting “Rainy Day” to you.

So start looking for “Rainy Day” at your favorite local or online Quilt Shop and think about all the steps it takes to build that bolt!

If you need some additional inspiration we have all new patterns that go with the group.

Enjoy “Rainy Day”!
