Welcome to Our Blog

Our FQS Mystery Day!

Welcome to week 4 of the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Blog Hop and the flower row week!

I think this is the best week! I have loved reading about all the other designers and their rows, but flowers are the best! Our task is to tell y’all about our favorite bouquets of all time.

Mary’s favorite flower is the Gerbera Daisy. I visited my local flower shop and tried to get a photo of a Gerbera Daisy but it seems they must be out of season or that she is possibly the only one in the world that likes daisies. Maybe Doris Day just ate them all!

Anyway, you will now have to be entertained and dazzled by my favorite bouquet. My favorite bouquet just happens to be whichever one is the newest. I have actually loved all the bouquets I have received because I have purchased them all myself!

Yep that’s right! All the flowers that I have ever received in my life were from me to me! My dear husband, bless his heart, is a very practical man. I knew when I married him 37 years ago that my chances of ever getting flowers were zilch. But I have a great collection of blenders and crock pots on the top shelf in my pantry.

So when this blog theme arrived in my inbox, I was up to the task of buying myself flowers again! So I went in search of my favorite bouquet on a rainy Phoenix day …

This is the one I chose …

I usually go for simple flowers in wild and colorful bunches like these …

But when I saw these buds with little “leaf” skirts I fell in love and knew I had found my newest favorite bouquet.

So that’s the story behind my favorite bouquet. I wish that I could show you our flower block, but I guess the whole point of a mystery is keeping it a secret. So you will just have to sign up for this wonderful block of the month and be surprised!

In case you don’t already know, this new block of the month features the beautiful fabrics of Joanna Figueroa and Fig tree Quilts.

The fabric group is called Avalon. I just love the navy blue in this group!

Make sure you visit the other “flower girls” today.  Anne Sutton at Bunny Hill Designs and the girls from Sweetwater.

But most importantly sign up for the block of the month!

If you have never done a block-of-the-month club before, this is a great one to start with.  Each month you’ll receive lots of fabric and lovely instructions to complete that month’s block.  The quilt is suited for everyone, from beginners to seasoned quilters.

Footnote … My husband asked me where the flowers came from in the kitchen when he arrived home from work today. I went into this long explanation about the Fat Quarter Shop and needing a favorite bouquet to blog about. He just looked at me and very nicely said “why didn’t you just take a picture in the store?” He really is a nice guy and I love him … he’s just very practical!

Sounds like my husband. Love the bouquet. Guess we could really throw them off & send them to each other.

  4. Fran Dill says:

I love flowers almost as much as I love fabric.
I’m with Mary, gerber daisies are one of my favorite. I have them in my garden right now, it’s been hard with this crazy weather, I am out covering them every night. I have about six different colors and they just make me so happy every time I see them.

  5. Jeanne says:

Haha! That is too funny. They all come with their quirks…that’s why we love them. 🙂

(and I suppose we come with quirks too, but don’t tell my husband I admitted it!)

  6. CathyK says:

Did your husband give my husband lessons on being “practical”? Thank you for the wonderful post today. It sure gave me a chuckle! 🙂

  7. Beverly says:

    You gotta love him!

  8. Shari Shobe says:

Your husband sounds like a clever man; take a picture! I am fortunate to receive suprise flowers throughout the year but never on a holiday. My husband says the pressure is too great. He likes it be whimsical and unexpected.

  9. Christine B. says:

Loved hearing about your favourite bouquets… in a way it is nice to buy them yourself that way you can guarantee you’ll like them!! My favourite Spring flowers are ranunculus… google them, I think you’ll like them! 🙂

  10. S Warren says:

Gerber Daisies are my favorite too…hot pink! They are so easy to grow and when you cut them for a vase, they last much longer than other cut flowers. Your Hubby’s comments are so down to earth. He sounds just like my Dad.

  11. Michele says:

Silly husband! Why wouldn’t you buy the flowers and bring them home to enjoy?

  12. Sarah says:

I love daisies. Oh boy do I love that movie. I love watching old movies on cold rainy evenings. Let’s treat ourselves with a bouquet or two.

  13. Kate Brown says:

My favorite flower is lilacs and in the spring my hubby finds lilacs to pick for me and fills up the house. I am in heaven for the week or so they are here. I wish they would grow year round! Your husband sounds too funny!

  14. Laura Brown says:

That is one of my favorite movies! I have all the Doris Day movies! Ya’ll are the best!

  15. Ângela says:

Barb my husband is just like yours!

I have to say that my favorite flowers are white orchids. God there beatiful!
